Hyundai Steel and World Vision India Empower Villages in Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu through Community Development Initiatives

 

Sriperumbudur, 27th February, 2020:  In line with the vision of creating safer and happy villages, Hyundai Steel and World Vision India have jointly initiated the Happy Safe Village Project in Tamil Nadu. The project covers areas of education, health and environment. The intervention includes improving the infrastructure in the government schools, enhancing the health seeking behavior among villagers and providing an environment for children to protect them from pollution, harm and accidents. Today as part of this initiative digital classrooms at the Ayakolathur primary school was inaugurated and 100 household toilets with 625 meter drainage was handed over to the residents of Kiloy Panchayat at an event.

The event was graced by the State Minister for Education K. A. Sengottaiyan and P. Benjamin, Minister for Rural Industries and other high level dignitaries that included K. Palani, MLA, Sriperumbudur Constituency, Dr. Samy Sathia Moorthi, Chief Educational Officer, Kancheepuram; C.Ratha Krishnan, District Educational Officer, Sriperumbudur and M. Kanchana, Block Educational Officer, Sriperumbudur.

Speaking at the event, Sony Thomas, Director, World Vision India, said, "Collaboration with Hyundai has enabled us to rebuild safe and healthy environment for children in the four villages of Kanchipuram District. Providing young children with opportunities for play, a safe environment, proper nutrition, education and a nurturing home life are crucial for their development and have a long-lasting positive impact."

The Project initiated in the year 2018 has impacted 12000 people living in the villages of Sengadu, Kiloy, Aya Kolathur and Kandigai, Sriperumbudur Taluk, Kanchipuram District. From installation of 162 solar street lights to renovation of 6 government schools and 5 Balwadi’s in the villages, the community development initiatives speak for themselves.
