Laxmi is getting better

2-year-old Laxmi was so weak that she could not even stand on her own. Laxmi’s grandmother brought her to a programme conducted by World Vision India in collaboration with the Jharkhand State Nutrition Mission to treat acute malnutrition among children.

Laxmi is getting better

In the picture, Laxmi is getting her arm circumference measured with a MUAC tape. The MUAC tape or the Mid Upper Arm Circumference tape indicates the level of malnourishment in a child. The colour red indicates severe malnourishment.

You can see in the picture that Laxmi’s MUAC measurement is in the yellow block, a good sign of improvement in her health. She was identified as malnourished and given treatment through the CMAM programme.

The CMAM (Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition) programme is a life-saving model that targets children with uncomplicated severe acute malnutrition (SAM) by administering Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). Till date, 20,525 children were screened in the communities we serve in Jharkhand, Of which, 217 children were identified with severe acute malnutrition and 158 children have been enrolled.
